I hadn't been feeling well last night.

But as I sat on the couch to recover,
I heard it.

A fine howl caused by wind tore through the house.

Wind chimes clattered.

Ryan and I both went to the window to look out.

I pressed my face against the musty screen,
hoping to catch a better look at the downpour.

Brilliant flashes of lightning,
Illuminating everything.

Monsoon season.

I sank down below the window and let the rain splatter shower me.

The warmth from the fridge was comforting.

From here I could watch Ryan cook dinner.
Between sprinkles of rain.

Though it felt good,
It was getting a little too wet,

And Ryan helped me up.

Then closed the window.

Dinner was quiet as we listened to the raging wind.

Mild thunder.
Heat lightning.

It came to our attention the world was flooding outside.

Indeed, The outside world was flooded in six inches of warm, murky water.

Most of the parking lot,
And a good portion of the main road.

The air was for once, refreshingly cool.
A relief.

The water was warm.

It was incredible.

Street lights licking the water.

Walking with Ryan,
I'm finally here.

Clinging to that soft shirt once more.

I never have to leave.
Again.

Not without him.
